About The Facility
Camp Walden is a traditional girl’s summer camp. Walden prides itself on creating an atmosphere which encourages self-confidence, promotes leadership skills, and provides a trusting and secure environment where girls can thrive. Many of the campers at Walden enjoy horseback riding. We offer them the opportunity to participate in the program every day they are in camp and to learn not only to ride the horses but to also care for them. Each summer we lease 8 horses.
Job Description
Camp Walden located in Denmark, ME is searching for an Equestrian Director. This individual will be responsible for the camp's riding program, teaching riding, caring for the horses and supervising the staff. This includes responsibility for:
• The camp horses, including feeding, watering, grooming, tacking, and their healthcare needs.
• The care of the barn and facility including cleaning stalls, water buckets, and water roughs, and keeping the tack room, feed room, rest room, and the barn neat and organized.
•Supervising a staff of 5 riding instructors.
•Teaching riding lessons to groups of campers safely and in a fun way.
Job Requirements
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate loves children and horses and has experience teaching children horseback riding. Experience and certification in caring for horses and barn management is a must. This is an opportunity to be a part of an amazing summer camp community and on a beautiful lake in Maine.
Benefits
Compensation:
This is a seasonal position, June 6 - August 11, 2018. The salary is competitive and depends upon experience. It includes room, board, weekly laundry and a travel bonus. Two evenings off a week and 6 12-hour days off during the 7 weeks the girls are at camp.
Description of Housing Provided
Staff live in wooden cabins in private rooms with shared bathroom and shower facilities.
