Clear Creek Stud is truly a full-service operation, specializing in personal service to both clients and their Thoroughbreds. We board up to 120 mares at a time (taking every precaution at foaling), break yearlings, train on a five-furlong training track (with breakaway safety rails), have a swim facility and a eurociser (mechanical exerciser).
This position involves riding and galloping both older, seasoned Thoroughbreds and breaking youngsters. There are always a number of lay-ups that will require galloping for some time before returning to the track. The breaking process will require you to perform the groundwork involved in breaking youngsters including lounging and driving, and then move on to riding in a round pen for a couple of days and then proceed to the field and finally onto the track. We realize each individual horse is different and will require varied amounts of time at each stage of the breaking process. Everyone starts work at 6:00 a.m. and gets off work at 4:00 p.m., therefore, when you are not riding, you will be required to help out wherever needed which may include feeding, turning horses in and out, putting horses on and off the eurociser, bathing, grooming, helping the farrier or vet, etc. We are very team oriented and expect all of our employees to act as a team also. You will work Mondays through Saturday 6 to 4 and Sunday mornings from 6 to 10 a.m. (we don't ride on Sundays).
Each horse should be ridden approximately 25 minutes depending on where they happen to be in the breaking process. Riding and breaking experience is required, but not necessarily thoroughbred experience.
We offer 1 week paid vacation after a year of employment.
We do not have an on site apartment available at the time, but we do offer assistance with rent expense.
