Brays Island Plantation is a private upscale community of 325 home sites situated on 5500 acres. Facilities include an 18-hole Ron Garl designed course, equestrian center, gun club, quail and deer hunting operations, 13-room Inn, tennis courts, fitness center, dishing and boating. Food and Beverage facilities include casual dining at the clubhouse and formal dining at the Inn. Numerous outdoor functions include oyster roasts, trail-ride-and-dines, and weddings in addition to private events at owners’ homes. 7-day per week operation. Estimated revenue is $1m.
Responsible for assisting the Director of Equestrian Operations in the daily operation of the Equestrian Center to include equine care services, program development, scheduling, activities, and supervision of department personnel.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Actively participates in the supervision of staff to include scheduling, hiring, discipline, training and performance appraisal process.
2. Provides exceptional customer service to owners, guests and internal and external partners
3. Ensures quality care for 50 to 88 horses to include but not limited to: feeding, bathing, stall cleanliness, pasture maintenance, exercise programs, veterinary and farrier care. Administers minor first aid to horses when needed, contacts vet for additional equine care as necessary.
4. Assists with scheduling routine farrier, vet and dentist visits. Maintains health records on each horse. Assists as necessary in emergency situations, including transportation with a horse trailer to a veterinary clinic.
5. Ensures barn and pasture facilities are clean, well-organized, and properly maintained. Assists with daily chores as needed (feeding, turnout, stall cleaning, etc.) Schedules and delegates routine maintenance and cleaning duties to staff. (Cleaning waterers, power washing of stalls, dragging pastures, harrowing arenas, mowing, etc.)
6. Guides trail rides, teaches private and group lessons, exercise horses as assigned.
7. Ensures payroll timekeeping is satisfactorily complete.
8. Tracks services performed for customers. (Lessons, trail rides, clipping, bathing, etc.).
9. Assists with coordinating equestrian activities, i.e. trail/community rides, summer camp, educational clinics and other programs offered.
10. Adheres to and holds all riders and Equestrian facility patrons to a high level of safety standards.
11. Acts in place of Equestrian Director in her absence.
12. Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: 2-Year degree with major related to field or an equivalent of education and experience.
Knowledge: Prior knowledge of equestrian center programs. Computer knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Access programs preferred.
Skills: Highly effective interpersonal skills, problem solving abilities and advanced communication and customer service skills.
Experience: 3-5 years competent riding experience with 2-3 years managing/supervising a stable/equestrian environment. Must be a capable communicator, rider, and horse handler.
