A small, private farm near Tryon, NC is looking for a new member of their tight-knit team! This lovely family farm currently boasts a 6 stall barn where the owner's four forever horses reside. The property is surrounded by miles of wooded trails and has a small creek running through its peaceful hills. They have plans to expand and upgrade the equine facilities with the same builders who constructed Terranova Equestrian Center in Sarasota,FL to include a covered arena and additional 8 stall barn in the near future!
This position does NOT offer stabling opportunities for any personal horse(s) - NO exceptions! Personal horses must be on full-care board at an outside facility. Ambitious show and training schedules will not coincide well with this position.
The person they are seeking should be first and foremost a kind, confident, and calm rider who comes from a strong H/J background. This person will be responsible for all aspects of caring for the farm and the horses on it, along with their wonderful team, with a small but vital responsibility being the training and exercising of the horses with the owner's riding in mind. There will be days where riding is not an aspect of the position. This is not a showing position, or one that will provide learning opportunities. This position is best suited for someone who has "been there, done that" and who understands that the horses must always come first. The ideal candidate is looking to settle down in a peaceful and easygoing atmosphere for a long-term duration.
Duties of this position are including but not limited to:
-Basic Care Responsibilities - grooming, stall cleaning, tacking, cleaning equipment and facility, turnout, water buckets
- Riding (primarily on trails in English tack, jumping experience necessary)
- Assisting as needed with managerial tasks (holding for vet/farrier, ordering feed, shavings, etc)
- Night check responsibility 3-4 nights per week
- Maintaining a positive and collaborative attitude is ESSENTIAL! This is a zero drama facility and an extremely generous work environment.
Hours are roughly 7am-1pm, 2:30pm-5pm, and night check between 8-9pm but are subject to change due to weather or typical farm delays.
This position offers a generous salary, paid bi-weekly, healthcare reimbursement up to $500/month, vacation days, holiday pay, and the potential for year-end bonuses. This position offers 2 full days off of work as well as 2 afternoons per week though night check responsibilities will be required 3-4 nights per week, alternating with the other live-in staff member.
Housing is provided in a Private 2bed, 2bath, fully furnished cottage on-site with all utilities covered. Long-term spouse, one dog, and cat(s) are welcome. This farm is not well suited for small children, or those looking to have them in the near future.
On-site housing is required!
