About The Facility
This peaceful, private, newly renovated 15 acre facility in Ocala boasts an 8 stall, center aisle barn with private turnouts. There is a high-class yet laid-back atmosphere at this facility, making it an enjoyable place to call home for the long-term. The herd here is made up of a small string of competition horses, up to 3 rehab projects, and a handful of retirees. There will never be more than 10 stalled horses on site here, and the owner is heavily involved in all of the day-to-day care of the horses as well! The facility is currently under construction, but anticipated to be finished in early June. Currently, there are only 5 horses to care for, but there are 3 additional horses scheduled to arrive upon completion of the facility. It is possible that the farm will eventually grow the retirement herd, but the retirees with largely be pasture boarded and low maintenance.
The owner of this facility does not live on-site, but is local to the farm, and will be available quickly in the event of an emergency with the horses or property.
Job Description
Looking for a responsible and knowledgeable individual to be the live-in caretaker and occasional show groom for a small group of private horses in Ocala. This person will be responsible for all basic horse care along with the owner of the facility. Additionally, this person must be willing and comfortable monitoring for signs of distress, tacking & grooming the competition horses for training each day, and assisting in the maintenance of the barn and property. Stalls will be light & reasonable as horses are turned out overnight year round. There will never be more than 4 weeks of travel in this position, with schedule decided upon well in advance for events in FL (Terranova, etc) and Regionals if horses are qualified and owner is motivated. The ideal candidate will also have an interest in assisting with the small number of rehab horses who will be brought on upon completion of the facility. Owner will happily provide educational courses in the latest therapies for this individual, and opportunities to grow in this area. This is not a riding position, though occasional hacking opportunities may be available for the right individual.
Should the facility reach a 10 horse headcount, an additional staff member will be brought on to assist in the care.
Hours will vary seasonally due to temps and inclement weather, but general idea of work hours will be:
Winter: 7:15am-5:30pm with evening turnout at 4pm and a break midday for lunch/errands, etc
Summer: 6:45am-7:30pm with evening turnout between 6-7pm and a longer midday break to escape the heat
