Job Description
Ambulatory Veterinary Technician Job Responsibilities Include the Following:
• Maintain an organized and fully stocked ambulatory vehicle ensuring all necessary supplies, tools, equipment, and drugs are readily available to treat and diagnose a wide variety of equine illnesses and injuries.
• Ability to drive the ambulatory vehicle to various locations within a wide geographical area.
• Assist the Ambulatory Veterinarian with appointments, various examinations, diagnostic procedures, and treatments during farm calls.
• Properly handle and restrain horses during procedures and treatments to ensure safety standards are being met.
• Ability to jog a horse for lameness and pre-purchase procedures.
• Assist with the preparation and administration of medications and provide appropriate wound care.
• Assist with lameness and physical examinations; take vital signs and record observations.
• Set up a variety of radiographic, diagnostic, and medical equipment for the ambulatory veterinarian’s use.
• Collect, prepare, and label various specimens (including blood, urine, feces) for laboratory testing.
• Ability to properly clean and sanitize injection sites.
• Update clinic management software data to maintain up to date client history, treatment records, reports, appointments, and invoice charges; accurately prepare and generate client invoices.
Job Requirements
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to meet the company’s driving history standards.
• Previous relevant work experience at a farm or in a clinical setting.
• Ability to hold and restrain horse during exams and procedures.
• Ability to jog and lunge a horse for lameness exams.
• Excellent horse handling experience.
• Reliable with a strong work ethic.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time in all types of weather.
