About The Facility
Great Southwest Equestrian Center is a premier equestrian center and host to some of the most prestigious horse shows in the country, with 70,000 class entries each year. Breeds and disciplines showing at GSWEC include; American Saddlebreds, American Quarter Horses, Arabians, Miniature Horses, Paso Finos, Dressage, Hunters/Jumpers and Reining, in addition to numerous other events such as the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo Horse Judging and the USHJA Emerging Athletes Program.
Job Description
Job Objective:
• This position is responsible for the development and management of all company (GSEC) owned shows. Assist management to identify and solicit non company (GSEC) owned shows. Provide facility owner and management staff with counsel related to industry trends and activities including show management, facility development, and animal safety.
Job Requirements
Essential Job Responsibilities:
• Develop new company owned (GSEC) horse shows, from initial concept through execution.
• Produce and manage company owned shows of the highest quality including: develop and manage prize list; hire and supervise contract staff for shows including judges, jump crew, officials, etc.; arrange transportation and lodging for staff; file documents with governing bodies; and assist with promotional parties for shows.
• Coordinate all show activities with the GSEC staff including facility conditions and safety issues
• Manage stabling and sale of shavings, feed, hay and other items as necessary
• Coordinate record keeping activities with the show secretary, office and GSEC
Other Job Skills & Requirements/Personal Attributes:
• Maintains company confidence and protects operations, including intellectual properties, by keeping information confidential.
• Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional associations.
• Five (5) years minimum horse show management experience in the hunter/jumper industry. Knowledge of reining and dressage shows a plus
• Ability to use social media Facebook, Twitter etc. to promote shows and events
• Ability to discern the nuances of photographs and artwork to create promotional advertising for national advertising campaigns
• Knowledge of formal business correspondence
• Ability to partner with and communicate effectively with all levels of management
• Excellent verbal communication skills
• Strong organizational skills necessary
• Ability to give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, and asking questions as appropriate.
• Ability to use logic and reason to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
• Ability to manage time effectively for oneself and the team associated with the show.
• Ability to actively look for ways to help people and serve the customer’s needs.
• Ability to consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
• Must be available to work weekends, holidays and extended hours
• Clean background check and DPS record
• Proficiency in the use and application of the following software:
Required: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook).
