About The Facility
Beautiful and well known thoroughbred farm located in Lexington KY. The facility is about 150 acres with 60-70 horses on site. Young stock, broodmares, racehorses in training, and retirees. This position would be in the Sporthorse Division - a 12 stall barn with eurociser, indoor/outdoor arenas, and a GP jump field. The owners believe in having no more than 4 horses to each person's care.
Job Description
Looking for an experienced Barn Manager, groom, and rider for the Sporthorse division of this operation. November-May in Wellington, FL rest of the time in Lexington, KY. 4 amateur H/J horses owned and ridden by the farm owner, as well as 6 +/- retired racehorses. Barn manager will be responsible for:
Grooming and caring for the 4 H/J horses both at home and at shows (not sole charge)
ability to ride and train the OTTBs, owner would love to see them restarted in new careers in their retirement. This person will be able to clinic, take lessons on, and show these horses. The more elite athletes within the group will be kept and produced, while the more average horses will be resold to their most suitable positions once restarted. Goals to have TBs competing in the TB classes in Wellington!
Ensuring care of each OTTB
Scheduling vet and farrier
Keeping health and care records on each horse
Ordering feed/shavings/supplies
Overseeing upkeep of each barn to high standard suitable for high profile buyers to see on a regular basis.
Managing barn staff and assisting in future hiring needs (up to 4 grooms, as well as landscapers and facility crew)
Coordinating with facility manager when necessary

6 days per week. Some flexibility as far as hours are concerned based on number of horses in work at each time.
Job Requirements
Knowledgable in basic equine veterinary tasks (administering oral and IV/IM meds)
Able to discern if a horse is in distress
Capable of keeping detailed records and organizing paperwork for each horse
Able to perform all basic farm chores
*Riding, preferably experienced both on the flat and over fences (preferred)
