About The Facility
Sweet Briar’s 130-acre Rogers Riding Center ranks among the best in the country on a college campus. Indoor and outdoor facilities include: The 120' by 300' Robin S. Cramer Hall, one of the largest indoor college arenas in the nation, has a heated viewing area and sound system; three spacious outdoor rings, one with sprinklers and lights; covered lunging area; several teaching and schooling fields with a variety of natural obstacles; hunter-jumper fences suitable for USEF competitions. Facilities include: 80 large box stalls with rubber mats; 45 well-mannered college-owned horses -- warm bloods, thoroughbreds, quarter horses, and several cross-breeds; four wash racks with hot and cold running water; five tack rooms; 20 individual paddocks and 10 large pastures for turnout.
Job Description
Facilities management covering the daily and annual care to maintain the footing in the rings, the fencing, fields/paddocks, all areas of the stables, equipment maintenance, manure(compost) management and work with the stable staff caring for these areas of the facility and program. Basic duties may also include bringing in and turning out horses, feeding, cleaning and filling water buckets and tubs, picking feet and checking horses for illness or injury, putting on and removing horse blankets, picking stalls or sheds, and hand walking horses as needed.

Facility Management –

Computer skills
Responsible for giving bills to the administrative assistant and reconciling the stable manager credit card.
Host groups that lease the facility
Coordinate the camp horse departure – with the other stable manager
Overseeing the facilities and employment of our student workers.

Train
Make schedule for Holidays and Vacation – with the other stable manager
Supervise, train and communicate Ring Maintenance – daily & semi annual
Trail Maintenance
Building Maintenance
Order feed, hay, bedding & supplements
Supervise, train and communicate with the stall cleaning employees
Coordinate and communicate with the physical plant staff and physical plant
Supervise, train and communicate with the stable staff performing maintenance duties
Short term and long term maintenance for:
Buildings
Fields
Trails – clean and open
Rings – dragged and watered daily plus long term maintenance
Fencing
Manure storage & removal
Equipment – Tractors, trailers, drags, trucks, etc.
Monitor the conditions of the riding center roads, lawns, parking areas, plantings, signage
Supervise and help with jump changes for the rings.
Facility preparation and presentation for events
On the job supervision and training of stable & student workers in conjunction with the Stable Manager
Complete necessary paperwork for groups to travel to competitions.
Coordinate and schedule the use of the fields and paddocks to not overuse
Committee work as needed to represent the riding program.
Work orders for physical plant
Budget – Administer the stable budget under the direction of the Director of Riding. Prepare and research the following areas of the budget:

Fencing
Stable supplies
Footing
Equipment care
Facilities care
Job Requirements
Required Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent, valid drivers license and insurability. Reliability, maturity, integrity, strong work ethic and attention to detail are essential. Tractor driving skills, Applicants must be able to work with limited supervision.



Preferred Qualifications:
Some college education, a commercial driver’s license, agricultural experience with pasture and field management, hay production and manure management(composting) is a plus.
