About The Facility
140-acre Egyptian Arabian breeding farm located just outside Reno, NV, just a short drive from Lake Tahoe. Average of 30 horses on the property, 4-6 foals bred per year. This position is a non-riding position as the farm is dedicated to breeding only.
Job Description
Schedule is 5 days/week, from 7am to 5pm with 1 hr. lunch break, (except for breeding/foaling-hours may vary). Will assist with breeding mares and all medical/vaccine care while pregnant, foal watch, birthing foals, ensuring foals are healthy when born, etc. Must be able to spot emergency concerns with mares in foal/during and after foaling and also foals with health issues. Provide basic first aid care for lacerations, wounds, and colic, be able to apply bandages. Will be responsible for halter breaking and ground manner training of foals to be handled, (lead, tie, trailer loading, etc.) Will manage established staff and help hands-on with facility duties such as barn/stall cleaning, maintenance, etc. Working interview required.
Job Requirements
Ability to take TPR, administer IM and/or IV injections and basic veterinary medical care
Experience handling Stallions
Foal handling and halter breaking experience
Knowledge and/or experience with AI and embryo transfer
Ability to drive truck and horse trailer - Must have Driver's License
Must be able to pass background check and drug screen
Breeding experience (to include working with maiden mares)
Foaling experience - Must have soft touch with animals , (abusive behavior will not be permitted on a zero-tolerance policy)
Salary based on experience, in addition to benefits and housing offered.
Description of Housing Provided
1br/1ba full size living on property to include basic electric, water and utilities. Possibility of well-behaved dog with pet deposit or personal horse welcome.
