About The Facility
Fragile Magic Farm is a privately owned, non-commercial, 20+ acre farm located 20 minutes from Asheville, NC. We currently have 9 horses on the property that are a mixture of performance horses (dressage and eventing), and rescues. The farm has an 7-stall barn and large pastures with run-in shelters, tack and feed room, hay storage, and a full size riding arena. The owners of the farm are a veterinarian and a research scientist with varied work schedules, one of whom is an FEI dressage rider and three day eventer.
Job Description
Job duties can vary depending on applicants' experience and FT or PT preference. Minimally, duties include daily feeding of the horses (as well as 2 rescued minis, a small herd of goats, llamas, and poultry, including peacocks), mucking/stripping/rebedding stalls, turnout with flymasks, sheets, blankets, and boots as needed, picking feet and monitoring animals for injuries or illnesses. As needed, bathing, grooming, and handling horses for vet and farrier, as well as petsitting the whole farm (including caring for dogs and cats) when the owners are both traveling will be required. Additional responsibilities can include anything from mowing the pastures and general farm maintenance to buying feed and stacking hay. For the right applicant, hands-on horse work can include longing and exercise riding to traveling to shows as the owner's groom and/or training and showing some horses in the areas of dressage and eventing.
Job Requirements
Applicant must be honest, kind, and compassionate, be a good communicator, be responsible and safe, be able to work unsupervised, and be willing to take direction well.
Experience with horses is required.
Experience with dressage and eventing is preferred.
House/Farm sitting when owners travel will be required.
Drug/Smoke free.
Professional horse-related references will be checked.
Clean driver's license required, experience driving with a gooseneck trailer a plus.
Benefits
Rent, utilities, and salary are negotiable, and we carry worker's comp insurance for any paid farm help. Opportunity to ride (and perhaps show) some high-quality horses will be available for the right candidate. Pets welcomed in the rental property.
Description of Housing Provided
Owner's house is about 300' from the barn. Housing for the farm manager is located on property, easy access to the barn and pastures but distant enough for privacy. House has a main room with adjacent kitchen area, bathroom, and 3 bedrooms. Well water, heat pump for most heat and AC and a woodstove as supplemental heat if needed.
