About The Facility
Private family farm located in the Hudson River Valley near the Catskills, encompassing retired horses, broodmares, riding horses and the occasional foal and yearlings. Owners live on property and are in the barn daily. Currently, the facility has a 10-stall barn with 9 horses of mares and geldings. Average 35-45 hours per week, 5-5.5 day work schedule with 1-2 Weekend days off per month. Candidate will be required to provide all basic care and husbandry for 8-10 horses, operate basic farm and land maintenance machinery, communicate openly with owners, other employees or barn visitors. Ideal character is an open-minded individual comfortable working with all disciplines from western to English, care and trust-based horse training methods, confidence with young horses and babies and an affinity for keeping a barn neat and tidy both in the warm and cold seasons.
Job Description
Duties include general care of horses such as stall mucking and rebedding, stripping and sanitizing stalls, keeping tack room and feed room clean, neat and inspected for pests, feeding and watering, preparing feed for next meal time, turn in and out with fly sheets/masks/blankets/etc., grooming, clipping as necessary, leg wrapping, administering oral and topical medications, tacking/untacking, bathing, blanketing as necessary, managing paddocks (dragging, picking, etc.), loading/unloading grain/supplies as needed, handling horses for vet and farrier, keeping track of feed, supplements, and medications to be ordered by owner before running out, and general care for horses living in a 4 season environment. Experience with minor farm maintenance and basic farm equipment a plus. Additionally, barn maintenance such as cleaning/pressure washing/dewebbing barn in spring and fall as needed.
Job Requirements
● Experience with young horses and yearlings required
● Experience with multiple disciplines strongly encouraged
● House/pet sitting/staying over while owners travel to care for all functions of the home, animals, etc.
● Fluent English speaker

● Ability to drive truck and gooseneck trailer a plus
● $25,000-30,000 starting annual salary, room for increase with long term employment
● 1-week paid vacation after 6 months of consecutive employment
● Health Care stipend maximum of $100 per individual or $150 per family plan of 3-4 individuals
Description of Housing Provided
Housing stipend will be paid to employee to cover rent until housing on site is available (approx. year 2020), then fully renovated 2/2 housing available on site. Pet's okay pending good behavior and training.
