About The Facility
Garrison Forest School is an all girl's private school located in Owings Mills, MD. Our riding program is known throughout the area for it's success in IEA with our middle and high school teams and various other hunter shows. We currently house just under 50 horses who are housed here year round and need constant care, even through the summer months. We have a great group of instructors and barn staff that look after the horses and help the students learn and grow in every way necessary to become successful horsemen/ladies and riders.
Job Description
In search of a motivated and knowledgeable candidate to fill a permanent full time stable staff position in our Garrison Forest School barn . This is a year round, 40 hour per week position working four (4), 10 hr days per week with paid leave time and full benefits. Hours are 7 am - 5 pm. Pay starts at $11.00 an hour, may be flexible for those with more knowledge and experience. We ask that applicants only apply or contact this posting if they have experience handling and caring for horses. Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to: feeding, haying and watering of horses, turning in/out, stacking hay, sweeping barns, cleaning water buckets, keeping barns tidy, minor treatments of horses - picking feet, washing tails, cleaning cuts/scrapes, wrapping etc. Employees must be able to stand/walk for up to 10 hrs a day. Employees must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. Employees must have reliable transportation as this is a 12 month position including during inclement weather. This position does NOT include riding, training or instructing. We are looking for someone who is looking for long term employment.
Job Requirements
Must have experience handling horses and common horse sense. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time. Candidates should be able to identify signs of equine health issues such as: colic, tying up, choking, scurf, scratches, rain rot, etc.. Must have reliable transportation year - round, including during the winter months when weather may not be ideal. Barn staff is considered essential personnel.
