About The Facility
Since 1946, Kennolyn Camps have welcomed campers and staff from around the world to a beautiful 300 acre camp property in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Atop the hill is an Equestrian Facility with a barn, stalls and paddocks, and 3 riding rings.
Job Description
Kennolyn Camps in Soquel, CA is seeking Equestrian Counselors for summer 2020. This seasonal position offers work from early June 2020 – August 16th, 2020. This is a live-in position. Housing in a shared cabin is provided and all meals are offered. We offer group lessons every day as well as trail rides, vaulting lessons, and horse care classes. If you are a concerned about maintaining your amateur status, we have experience with this and can assign you to a role that complies with USEF rules.
Equestrian Counselors are a team of 6-7 staff who tack, groom, teach, clean, ride, lunge, muck, and feed. Ideal candidates will have some basic teaching experience but much more important is some experience working, volunteering, or participating at an equestrian facility focused on group lessons. Your skill and comfort level with teaching kids, tacking, grooming, and lunging, for example, are actually more important than your riding skills for this job.
Our program has taught riding to children since 1946. We had one horse back then. Now we have a wonderful string of reliable horses. We have several horses that are trained to 2nd level in dressage and can jump 2’7 courses. We also have a string of bomb-proof beginner horses that are perfect for kids just learning to ride. We have a wide range of breeds including Dutch Warmblood, Hanoverian, Quarter Horse, Thoroughbred, AQHA Paint and even a Fjord. Apply here: http://www.kennolyncamps.com/staff/staff-application/
