Job Description
Responsible for the daily planning, organization, supervision and administration of farming activities at Wheatley Farms in Brookville (Glen Head) Long Island, NY.
Care and maintenance of livestock including goats, sheep, chickens, horses and rabbits. This position works in conjunction with clinical, therapeutic and fine arts staff to create a healthy, wholesome environment for people with and without disabilities to therapeutically engage with the soil, land and animals. Knowledge of techniques and equipment for planting, growing, and harvesting farming food products for consumption, including storage/handling techniques. The Barn/Stable Manager must adhere to all regulations for safe, high-quality produce farmed in an environmentally friendly manner and will work to ensure organic certification (NOP) of the program.
Job Requirements
• Extensive experience with handling horses of all ages
• Experience in barn management
• A minimum of three (3) years’ of progressive experience with operating a
farm, horticulture, marketing and processing of farm products and livestock
• Experience with assisted animal therapy, outdoor education preferred
• Must be willing to work outdoors in all types of weather
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Agribusiness, Farm Management or
related field a plus
• Experience coordinating diverse programs and services designed for people
with disabilities preferred

Description of Housing Provided
This position calls for Live-in status with a free 1 bedroom apartment and field boarding for one horse. As a live-in staff, the person will have responsibility to care for the animals throughout the week and on weekends ensuring the safety and well-being, and participating in other activities as designated by their supervisor.
