About The Facility
The Humane Society of North Texas (HSNT) operates a 30 acre ranch in Joshua, Texas, to rehabilitate equine and livestock from abuse and neglect. In 2018, HSNT rescued more than 260 equine and 300 livestock.
Job Description
The Director of Equine & Livestock serves as the primary contact for HSNT regarding intake, care and outcome of equine and livestock. Ensures humane treatment of all animals as well as safety of animals, staff, volunteers and visitors to HSNT property. Ensures compliance with all federal, state and local laws regarding treatment of animals. Establishes goals for key program metrics including animal length of stay, training and adoption for Equine & Livestock. Develops and maintains SOPs for the program. Ensures HSNT facilities and equipment are properly maintained. Works collaboratively with HSNT Humane Investigations team on the seizure of equine & livestock subject to abuse or neglect. Works collaboratively with national/regional animal welfare and industry partners to actively promote adoptions and anti-cruelty initiatives and provide resources to animals in need. Manages vendors supporting HSNT's Equine & Livestock efforts including contracting, project management and payment authorization. Develops and manages the financial budget for Equine & Livestock including personnel, ranch maintenance, feed and supplies, veterinary services, equipment rental and capital expenditures. Works collaboratively with Development and Communications teams to promote HSNT Equine & Livestock operations and fundraising events. Stays abreast of emerging trends in the care and management of Equine & Livestock to improve HSNT's effectiveness in saving the lives of animals and accomplishing its mission. Recruits, trains and motivates staff.
Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree in animal science or ranch management or equivalent experience. Five years of experience in equine or livestock industry. Working knowledge of facility management. Three years of supervisory experience. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability represent HSNT in a professional manner in all situations. Self-motivated, well organized, goal oriented and works effectively under pressure. Proven success with strategic planning and project management. Ability to learn and quickly adapt to changes in programs and procedures. Must support the mission and values of HSNT.
