About The Facility
Established in 1982, Chagrin Valley Farms is a well-established, 85-acre equestrian facility that offers riding lessons, boarding and hosts shows throughout the year. We specialize in all levels of hunter/jumper training, instruction and showing. We are a team of horse enthusiasts dedicated to the care, appreciation and education of horses with the principal objective of enhancing individual horse ownership and the horse industry at large. Our goal is to teach people of all ages to communicate effectively with horses in a safe and fun environment.
Job Description
Chagrin Valley Farms is interviewing for an In-Gate Manager / Bookkeeper to join our team. This is a unique opportunity for someone with one to three years of bookkeeping experience who also has a passion for horses, to be a part of a growing show facility in the heart of Chagrin Valley. This is a dual role with the main responsibilities to include managing the in-gate during competitions and handling the company’s bookkeeping on non-show days. Job Requirements
Responsibilities during horse shows include but are not limited to:
• Responsible for getting riders into the ring in a timely fashion
• Check in competitors at the arena gates and keep the classes running smoothly
• Assemble the classes promptly; Have class ready to enter ring when called
• Relay to show office any missing entrants
• Responsible for checking numbers as exhibitors enter arena
• Keep the gate areas free from congestion; Keeping this area safe for competitors and spectators
• Assist Show Manager in ensuring that the show runs in a smooth and efficient manner - start the show on time, allow for breaks as required
• Ensure compliance with governing bodies (e.g. USEF & OPHA)
• Ensure all policies and procedures are followed and shows run in the spirit of positive horsemanship development

Responsibilities during non-show days include but are not limited to:
• Pre-event preparation and organization
• Under general supervision, create and maintain the accounting records for the company using QuickBooks Online
• Invoice customers, apply payments & track past due
• Manage bills received from vendor
• Reconcile general ledger accounts
• Budget planning and management
• Develop measures for success and track program performance
• Assist in clinics and education programs, when needed

Skills, Qualifications and Experience Requirements:
• Associate Degree
• 1-3 years bookkeeping experience
• QuickBooks Online experience a plus
• Must be an Active Member of USEF & USHJA
• Knowledgeable about horse show ring procedures and able to set a relaxing tone for exhibitors waiting to enter the ring
• Have a general understanding of USEF rules and show management
• Previous show experience in hunter/jumpers
• Must be willing to maintain a flexible schedule including working weekends
• Competent horsemanship skills and comfort level with horses are necessary
• Must have or willing to acquire and maintain certification in CPR Pro/AED/O2 and first aid
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Must be creative and possess a positive attitude
• Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities
• Proven leadership abilities and a positive role model
• Must work well with others and enjoy working with people and animals
• Must be a reliable, detail-oriented, professional and team player with an excellent work ethic
